Bizarre endothelial reaction: histological mimicry of epithelial malignancy in gastric endoscopic biopsy.

چکیده
DESCRIPTION Gastric endoscopic biopsies often reveal pseudoneoplastic processes which can be misinterpreted as malignant by the unwary. 2 In this case the lamina propria of the non-ulcerated gastric mucosa was densely infiltrated by epithelioid cells with significant cytological abnormalities. There was marked non-uniform karyomegaly, with irregular nuclear contours and frequent macronucleoli in the infiltrating cells. Some of these cells showed intracytoplasmic lumen formation strongly suggesting poorly differentiated signet ring cell carcinoma (figure 1). However, careful scrutiny by microscope revealed red blood cells in a rare intracellular lumen and the immunoprofile (vimentin, CD 34 and factor VIII related antigen positive and pan-cytokeratin, CD68 and epithelial membrane antigen negative) confirmed the reactive mesenchymalendothelial origin of these cells (figure 2).

Current roles of endoscopy in the management of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas
Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas is characterized by intraductal papillary proliferation of mucin-producing epithelial cells that exhibit various degrees of dysplasia. IPMN is classified into four histological subtypes (gastric, intestinal, pancreatobiliary, and oncocytic) according to its histomorphological and immunohistochemical characteristics. Endoscopic retro...

متن کاملValue of routine, non-targeted biopsies in the diagnosis of gastric neoplasia.
AIM To explore how often a diagnosis of gastric neoplasia is made on routine, non-targeted biopsies taken for determination of Helicobacter pylori status, compared with directed biopsies from endoscopically abnormal mucosa. METHODS Records of all patients with a biopsy diagnosis of gastric cancer or dysplasia during a two year period were reviewed to determine whether the biopsy had been targ...
متن کاملUpper Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Biopsy; Morphological Spectrum of Lesions
.. Background: Upper GI endoscopy is an established procedure for investigating a wide range of upper GI conditions especially inflammatory and malignant diseases of stomach and esophagus. A good correlation in diagnosis can be achieved by complementing endoscopic findings with histology of biopsy specimens. Aims and objectives: 1) To evaluate morphological patterns of upper GI conditions. 2) T...
متن کاملGastric bronchogenic cyst presenting as a gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
Bronchogenic cyst (BC) is congenital abnormality of the tracheobronchial bud derived from the primitive foregut which is predominantly found in the mediastinum. Surgery remains the most common treatment when malignancy is suspected, or when there are presenting. Only infrequently, is BC located at an extrathoracic site. Although rarely located in the stomach, BC should be considered as a differ...
